The crib is the first thing that comes to mind while making the list for the essentials for a baby nursery. Luckily in today’s time there are enough options online and otherwise that would fit in any budget and space. But something to consider here is the size and getting the mattress accordingly. Do also ensure the material as it should not contain any toxic paint/polish on it. An ergonomic design with round edges helps as well.

There will be times when the mother would want to feed the baby or just make the baby go to sleep while humming a lullaby. A good rocking chair would surely help. Place it in a corner and ensure that its comfortable to take a nap in. Also do not forget to have a foot stool with it.

With time the trend of having a thematic nursery is catching up and why not. After all this might be the only time when parents actually get to live their childhood too. But being in a country where pre natal sex determination is illegal, its advisable to have a neutral colour theme. Colours can always be added with upholstery and other accessories.

It is said that a well lit room is good for the health of the child although its true for any human. However, if you do have a window in the room, do ensure to have thick curtain so that you can block the light when needed.

Having a child is not just about the mother and baby but the father’s need to be involved as well and that is where a day bed comes in. It can always be a place to relax a bit or work on the laptop while you stay around the baby. But then this additional piece of furniture comes in only when you have enough space in the room. Perhaps after you are done with having a place to change the diapers, get the baby dressed and still have space in the room, a day bed will help.
