Monsoon for us in India is more than just a season. It is a celebration of sorts, where all the beauty of our varied flora comes alive. It’s when the freshness of the breeze and the peeping sun between the mackerel sky make up for a perfect day. It is a riot but with a rhythm to it. This season starts from Kerala down south and goes up to Tibet, touching the whole country and making it scenic as it goes. However, there are some sticky situations that do leave us a tad flustered. So before it gets raining like cats and dogs, lets do some easy DIY tips to get your home monsoon ready.

Upholestry
It’s the time to change your curtains, get away with those cushions, just make it all light and breathable. Shreya from La Kairos high recommends linens and cotton to be the upholstery choices in this season.

Get some colour in your home to break out from the gloominess of those dark monsoon clouds with a bunch of seasonal flowers. Add some wild ones to the bunch and let it all just infuse the freshness in your home.

Rugs rolled out
Now as we know it, its just not possible to get through the whole season without you or someone in your family coming in once in a while, all wet. The last thing you would want it to get your precious Kashmiri carpet to get all dirty. Hence roll out that cotton rug as they are easy to clean and they dry soon.

Summer scent
The beautiful lingering odour when rain drops fall on the dry soil, known as petrichor is unarguably the scent of the monsoon. However, amid all that mugginess some citrus scents can really help refreshen your place up. Either an exotic pot-pouri, some fresh jasmine or a scented candle.

Spring clean
It’s called procrastination and am sure many of us are majorly into it. Well spring anyway is hardly there to finish the cleaning. So better late than never, do it now! Take out all that extra stuff and put in those shoe fragrance to keep the leather fresh.

It is the time to get some more colour in your life as it gets all dark & grey. Might be the cushions or the chinaware, add some happy bright shades and fight those monsoon blues away.

Wind chimes
We got the candles, we got some cushions, a book to read and a bright mug of coffee. All of this while you snuggle up in a corner around the window looking out as it rains, but there is still that one little thing that can add up to this magical moment. A wind chime, you may choose a bamboo one, or one that’s made of clay, Let me ring in the weather for you, as you relax in your reading nook.

Grow some greens
Now not that there is a bad season to grow a plant but the humidity in the air makes it tad more easier indeed. This is a good time to grow plants like hibiscus or jasmine. You can visit your local nursery to know more on how you might have to shift a few plants into your verandah or indoors for a while as too much water can kill a few of them.
