You really don’t have to be living in a city like Bengaluru, to enjoy your balcony. There are a few days, even for Delhi, where all you want to do it sit outdoors and feel the breeze. But all in the comfort of your home space and not a public park. Specially today, while it is raining outside. And let’s face it if Delhi can have days like these, am sure your city will have many more. So it only makes sense to get those perennials, hook up the swing and make that balcony/terrace/patio look worthwhile. To give you a helping hand with that, I’ve rounded off 7 quintessentials for an all weather comfy balcony.
Direction
So if you getting a new home, then this tip is for you. South or East facing balconies work best. North facing ones get the least sun due to which they can be more chilly in the winters. But this also means it won’t be too hot in the summers. So if you do have more than one, then check for the direction to plan it better. Not sure about the location? No problem, go for plants that are perennials and can go on all through the year.

Flooring
Again, if you do know the amount of sun you get on your terrace/balcony it would help. There are enough options, like the terracotta tiles (that are great in winter and summers), the cement tiles for the colour pop, wooden decking or if living on rent then how about colourful outdoor rugs. You just need to ensure that they are easy to maintain and are quick to dry.

Lighting
Lighting done right can make any balcony one of the most romantic locations on a nippy winter evening. The least you can have are the basic outdoor lighting fixtures that when needed can make it all bright and fairy lights for those moments when you just wish to sit back and relax. Or add some lanterns for a chic look. Remember mood lighting is not just for the indoors.

Outdoor seating
Obviously a cosy seating is one of the quintessentials for an all weather comfy balcony. So get a cane chair with a good seat or in wrought iron. Wooden bench or plastic if you may like, but get this right. If you planning to hang a swing, try facing the north or the south when you sit on it. Not to forget an all weather throw and cushions.

Having some good music always makes things better. So why not get a wi fi speaker to make the experience more worthwhile. After all not all of us have the birds chirping for us. So play what calms you down while you let the breeze sway you away.

A side table is a very important piece that completes this list. Either to put up those drinks or that morning mug with the newspaper. It just makes it so much easier. Surely if the space is small, use the ledge or the seating around. If you do have the luxury of space, then use a trunk to keep all those cushions that you might want to take out for one of your evening soirees, when you need to.

There are still quite a few things that can be added to accessorise that balcony of yours, but then what’s a home if the person who owns it does not adds a personal touch. So go step by step, wether that might be getting an awning or getting the right drip system. But surely you will succeed.
