The wall behind the bed

Wrap around headboard or larger than life art mural, there is alot that can be done with the wall behind your bed. Like in this suite at the Taj Lake Palace (Udaipur) the wall has been hand painted with two mini jharokha, with traditional miniature art work inside. Now you do not need to get this elaborate but having something interesting behind your bed wall is always a good idea. If minimalism is what you follow, then go for a chic wallpaper or get some interesting art work behind. Least you can do is have a picture sil with interesting mix of black and white childhood pictures, memorabilia from your favorite vacation or even an art work.

The right kind of lighting

This is one of the most important aspects that can make even the most high end room look shady or make a minimal room look chic. Lighting can change it all. Getting enough sun light through the windows is always a plus point but may not be like that always. So keep a mix of light fixtures, like seperate reading light fixtures next to the bed. Wall sconces and lamps with dimmers to add some drama. Back lit make up mirror and enough light above the vanity, in the bathroom area. Also, if you planning your electrical points, try keeping most of them close to the door. Adding automated light that lit up when you open your wardrobe surely adds some magic.

 Lounge area

A bedroom can always be a bit too square or a stretched out rectangle (among many other shapes that they come in).  Add two chairs at each corner, facing the bed or a chaise lounge, having a seat apart from the bed is always a smart plan. If nothing else try having a bed bench that gives you trunk space inside, to keep your winter quilts or extra cushions.

Work desk/vanity

Having a laptop/macbook surely means an easy route to your bed but then if only you would discipline yourself to work only until you are on your desk could change a lot. Hence having a work desk makes a lot of sense. Adding a mirror in front, doubles it up as your vanity. Obviously this needs to be planned while doing the interiors of your bedroom.

Upholestry

How can this countdown of 7 luxury hotel inspired tips to make your bedroom look posh finish without talking about the high TC bed sheets. The super soft bed sheets can go upto 1200 thread count but you need to be careful about checking if it’s natural fabric or not. As a lot of higher thread count sheets blend of natural and synthetic fibres which are not good to sleep in. However, when buying sheets for yourself, try to keep it all around 300 TC.

Shreya Jain of La Kairos, highly recommends pure cotton and linen for the sheets. She says, these fabrics are breathable, increase blood circulation, anti bacterial in nature, environmentally friendly, soft on the skin and promotes good night sleep. Since curtains are probably changed a lot less often than any other upholstery in a bedroom. Try going for fabrics depending on the direction of the window, as depending on the light one can go for a sheer and then a heavy top curtain or just a roman blind.

Mini stache box

The stache box aka mini fridge is surely the ultimate thing to have in your room (may be after having a projector to play x-box, that is). It kills the need to go to your kitchen in the night and helps you keeping your munchies/booze right at your disposal. Although if not a mini fridge, the coffee maker on your work table is pretty much heavenly too.
